"I would have never described myself as someone who enjoyed working out. I would make all kinds of excuses as to why I couldn’t get to the gym…you name it and probably I said it. Hence, why I haven’t liked myself for quite some time. When Lianna asked me if I wanted to compete in the challenge I was overjoyed. I knew that this was the one shot I needed to get a body that I loved!
Coming to workouts became something that I wouldn’t miss. I didn’t need to make any excuses because I loved what I was doing and enjoyed everyone who was there with me, including Lianna and Heidi. I can now honestly say that I love working out. Working out in a boot camp class is so much fun because you are doing something wonderful for yourself and being social which is what I love. Being a part of this challenge has changed me for the better. I now love who I am and can be a better person for my children and husband. The real icing on the cake was going shopping last week and buying pants that were two sizes smaller then what I’ve been wearing for the past five years!!"

Being overweight was getting Roxanne Cordova down ... literally.
Carrying 220 pounds on her 5-foot-6 frame was zapping her strength, causing her to take medications for her cholesterol, putting her in the diabetes danger zone, and taking its toll on her knees.
A little over a year ago, she was tired of feeling tired and resolved to get fit. She signed up for the "Wealth for my Health Challenge," a competition involving three fitness centers, and became a member of the Body Innovations team.
Beginning in January 2011, she jumped into boot-camp training three times a week, signed up for sessions with a personal trainer, and took a healthy approach to meal preparation. By the time the 16-week challenge ended in April, she began to feel like she did 20 years ago as a member of the women's cross-country team at Creighton University.
With a 75-pound weight loss and a body-mass index now in the "healthy" category, Roxanne has been able to kick the cholesterol medications and is no longer considered a candidate for diabetes.
And, she's not only feeling like she did during her college running days, she's also running like it. Her long-awaited return to marathon competition occurred in May 2011 when she ran the half-marathon version of the Lincoln Marathon in 2 hours, 22 minutes. Continuing to train and kicking it up a notch, she entered the Des Moines (Iowa) Marathon in October and covered the 13.1 miles in 2 hours, 3 minutes - an average of 9 minutes, 38 seconds per mile.
That's quite a transformation for someone who was away from running for 10-plus years because "it was so painful," she recalled.
Now 41, the mother of three enjoys keeping up with her kids (ages 20, 10 and 8) and continuing the running regimen. She plans to return to the Lincoln Marathon in 2012, and by next October, she said, she may be ready for the full 26.2 miles at the Des Moines Marathon.
Healthier living is now a family lifestyle in her home.
"My kids enjoy seeing what's happened to me," she said. "I've got a ton of energy that I didn't have before, yet I require less sleep."
And, the kids have followed suit.
"We're bike-riding together and we're eating healthier," says the new-and-improved Lincoln mom, "and my husband has been very supportive throughout all of this."
Heidi Slaymaker, owner/certified personal trainer for Body Innovations, is proud of her client's progress.
"She's great ... she's done some amazing things the past year," said the fitness center owner.
To go from obese to healthy to marathon runner has been quite a ride for Roxanne ... and it's just beginning.

"For years I’ve struggled to find a workout routine that was effective, that I could stick with, and mostly that didn’t bore me. Running on a treadmill or using a workout DVD just wasn’t my thing. It’s too easy to ditch your workout and watch TV. Plus it’s just so monotonous, I was never able to stick with a routine and make it a part of my life. My first day at Boot Camp, I’ll admit, it was incredibly hard - I was sore and in pain for days! But every day is different – one day may be cardio intense but the next day we might concentrate on abs - but no matter what – no two days have ever been the same. The instructors are really helpful, motivating and so nice they make you want to come back. And after a few times, the soreness goes away too! I’m fortunate that I go to Boot Camp with two friends but the mentality at Body Innovations is so friendly and nonjudgmental, I’m sure I would have kept going without my friends anyway. For someone who only likes to exercise if it’s while playing sports - like me -boot camp is really a great fit! "

"Boot camp is fun and challenging for all body types and fitness abilities. Body Innovations is a great way to make a lifestyle change! It has been a real investment in my future health. I have lost a significant amount of inches in only a few months, and look forward to future success. Heidi and Lianna are very supportive and are great at keeping me motivated. If your goals are weight loss, strength building or overall improvement of your health, Body Innovations is a great choice."

"Boot Camp is great way to relieve stress. Attending Boot Camp, I feel like I can manage the chaos of my personal and professional life because after each workout l feel re-energized, in control, and more clear-minded. Instructors Heidi and Lianna push me to run faster or finish one more set and each time I think I can’t but I step up to the challenge and succeed. The benefits of Boot Camp can be more than just reaching a weight goal, you will feel more balanced and feel empowered because you will be amazed with what you are able to accomplish. I encourage you to challenge yourself and attend Boot Camp; no matter what your goal is you will love the results! "
